Review of marine growth on flexible riser systems, Shell Ltd (UK), 2010-11
Marine ecologists at SRSL possesses in-depth and extensive knowledge of the marine environment in Scotland, coupled with a clear understanding of the kind of marine biofouling that affects artificial structures in our waters (such as vessels, offshore renewable energy devices, marinas, ports and aquaculture installations). We offer cutting-edge knowledge in the science of community composition, as well as the physical environment that facilitates the propagation and spread of non-native species.
Since 2010, SRSL have been commissioned by Shell UK to carry out a number of marine desktop and laboratory studies, focusing on marine biofouling affecting operations at the Schiehallion oilfield, West Shetland.
This scope of work included:
- Faunal identification
- Literature review/desktop study of settlement and density characteristics
- Marine growth assessments
- Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
- Video analysis
- Technical reporting
